A beautiful walk to the three castles
In the middle of nature, through forest and vineyards of Husseren les Châteaux and Eguisheim, with an omnipresent panoramic view and exceptional peacefulness: you can be sure to feel resourced in a couple of hours!
After a solid breakfast, leave the hotel by foot and take care to bring a bottle of water in case of warm weather, or why not a picnic prepared by he hotel (given in a backpack) if you have time to enjoy the trip completely…

Pass behind the building in order to reach the little path which will make you go up the mountain (Schlossberg) on the south-east faced side as to enjoy the view on the Rhine-valley (the German Black Forest and even the Swiss Alpes certain days), as well as to find benches and be able to rest on the way. Follow the signs and inscriptions with a little yellow circle or a red diamond.

You will be able to stop on your way, first at the ladies bench as indicated on the sign above it (“damen sessel") and a little later for the men… after half an hour’s walk (rest included), you will reach the top and discover the ruins as well as the view on the Vosges mountains on one side and on the Alsatian valley on the other side. Here is one of the numerous accounts of the Alsatian past covered with constructions, battles and Lordships. But do not look for an explanation on the site: you will have to let your imagination be your guide or else get documented on beforehand…(for example HERE or HERE or again HERE)

Once the curiosity for old stones covered, go back to nature and down the other side of the mountain (wear good shoes, the path might be slippery) in order to get out of the forest and into the open tracks in the vineyards, sliding between Grand Cru fields of Pfersigberg and Eichberg from Husseren les Châteaux to Eguisheim. There, you will pass the little house, tomb of Mister Frossard, the descriptive signs of the “sentier viticole” (wine-path) and you could go and visit the little stork-park in Eguisheim. On your way back to Husseren les Châteaux, you might want to stop at a local winegrower to taste some fresh Alsace-wine ! Cheers ! And you can then end your jouney by a nice lunch on the terrace of the Brasserie du Sapin.
